Introduction: Our oceans and atmosphere are tightly intertwined and share gases to reach a balance.

Purpose of this blog:

I'm making two points here and I hope that both are clear. One, I need to organize Killer Oceans more clearly; two, technology will not save us shown by the Study of Critical Environmental Problems (SCEP), noted in The Study of of Man's Impact on Climate (SMIC) below.

One, This blog serves my need to organize my resources and stay on task. For example, only this last week I misplaced an important prediction from the 1972 Report of the Study of Man's Impact on Climate (SMIC). The authors believed that Earth's CO2 content would drop because nuclear power would become more economical and fossil fuels less so. Their 1972 crystal ball failed us too.

They failed to foresee Three Mile Island; they failed to predict how Russia's Chernobyl's faulty reactor design would poison Earth's atmosphere. They failed to foresee Fukushima. Still, Their categories of investigation, their resources and methods were sound, no different than today's sciences of physics, chemistry, climate, and oceanography. They were, like us, condemned to forecasting a future with new variables and a wicked growing problem.

Two and to the point, I lost my page number in the SMIC, so it's not here to reference; not a catastrophic outcome, but annoying.

I'm sure that no more than a few readers reach my Killer Oceans' pages, so nothing lost here is a catastrophic outcome, like "Man's" creation of killer oceans from burning fossil fuels, releasing plastic into killer oceans via litter, and even our washing machine discharge of plastic polluted wash water, some of which ends up in Arctic plankton. There are stories that even our toothpaste contains plastic as a "safe" dental abbrasive. Anyway, it's annoying to lose material, page references, and fail to keep track of content posted on my web pages.

It's because of mishaps like the SMIC's temporary content reference that this Killer Oceans web blog exists, besides our deification of technology. From now on I promise myself to note what I add to Killer Oceans right here on this Killer Oceans blog page.

Few people will reach these words, and those that do find their way because of my t-shirts and vehicles.

This web site soothes my conscience and I think that's why I have it, other than being madder than hell; anything less would surely cause great mental anguish as students of climate science and climate denial will confirm. In fact, Chris Hedges recently identified this issue by declaring from his pulpit, "The opposite of hope is grief . . . ." to paraphrase. So web sites are the least I can do. My t-shirts and vehicles are one more step up to a self-developing species consciousness, self-enforced.

Mr. Hedges spoke to my prevailing anxiety as it affects people that care about the 7th generation.

I had identified this "mental anguish" as a basic mental health issue and named it "depression," a type of "mourning," and yet to be defined mental suffering. There's no denying the great genocide. I see it in my yard on a daily basis. "Where did the butterflies and June bugs go?" Now I'm told that we've lost many insect species, with butterflies, moths, and bees on the chopping block. And then we have the sorrowful Vaquita dolphin, down to fewer than 20. "Grief." Hence, Killer Oceans web site for another stab at an allusive mental health - - "It's all reification" I keep telling myself. Mr. Hedges has tried to do more for us than the entire assemblage of Sunday pastors.

After more than 3 years part-time study of climate denial, climate science history, climate science, and now oceanography, more grief builds as the inevitable becomes more apparent. So I read more to fight grief. and keeping a blog became a necessity. As a necessity to a mental check by writing about stuff that matters, that is. Plus, it makes a dandy archive.

Anyone browsing Killer Oceans, Climate Deception, and Percent Counts soon understands my problem. I became overwhelmed by information and failed to keep up with structuring content. So here's a blog to at least keep track of adding, deletions, and changes to Killer Oceans first, Climate Deception second, and Percent Counts third.

Sadly, I will not reach Global Warming Simplified or Climate Damage any time soon.

What I've learned

I've learned again to never, ever put off house cleaning. Put content where it belongs and then take the next logical step. Anything less just leads to endless clutter. As of this writing I cannot easily place my fossil fuel climate files in order. This means I'm months behind writing content for each and making audios available for myself and others!

Still, this Killer Oceans blog helps get my act together; already I see possibilities on this page, like making hot links to the Vaquita and genocide in general, as one example. I move forward NOW!

Politics

Caveat: I say that I'm "neither left nor right. I'm ahead." Still,
I understand that it would be naive and silly to claim some sort of a-political standing in the world today. Considering the power of the Koch brothers and the fossil fuel industry to dominate commercial media and politics, any stand becomes political on climate issues. We know that oligarchs and politicians politicized climate science as well as other areas of science. Some use religious leaders to cloud the real issues, the genocide facing humanity and tens of thousands of species in the wild.

And then there's my digression into "The New Green Deal" as found on the Green New Deal page. That's definitely a political act, Eddie. There's no denying its political position. I really did not want to get that "political," but it was inevitable; I remind myself, "Margaret Thatcher's on my landing page, I remind myself and potential readers."

I stand by it

There is no good reason to confuse climate mitigation with other political issues. There is too much to lose and not that much to gain considering the short-term gains of the Green New Deal's proposal and long-term losses of a failed climate policy.

In any case, even writing about the climate deniers and climate deceivers raises political questions. It's OK with me, though. There's not much anyone can say to a blogger about their politics when a blogger remains far and away from physical threats; it happens, though, that I literally wear Killer Oceans t-shirts and have similar designs on my vehicles. No, I'm not suicidal, "I'm ahead," like I said. I'm "OK."

While I'm at it, let me remind myself to include Lamar Smith in this blog comment. Jerk!

Ocean Acidification

See this ocean acidification page (as it develops) for the poop on ocean acidification. There's no turning the clock back on this one, ocean acidification. Short of making trillions of creating trillions of bubbles to carry CO2 into the atmosphere from about 12 feet or so below the global ocean surface. That's the one remedy bounced around ocean chemistry thinkers.

The fact is that we should have listened to President Johnson in 1965. Then we could have taken steps, put money into big time research projects and looked for sustainable alternatives. But, the cement heads wouldn't have it, no way. President Carter took a stab at it, but Ronald Reagan had this "big government" bug up his nose; when he left office he left a bigger government in place than he found. Worse, the cement heads were in control and destroying habitat became patriotic. and still is to this date. But this is politics.

Ocean Heating

Even when humanity gets a handle on its greenhouse gas emissions, like carbon dioxide and methane, the oceans will continue to release heat for hundreds of years. This is because Earth's oceans have 100,000 times more mass than our Earth's atmosphere. This imbalance between oceans and atmosphere must take many human generations to balane out.

In other words, 7th Generation's great, great, great grandchildren will live with our heat every day of their lives, if they have lives.

Plastic Pollution

If you live in the Mid-west United States you probably have little concern for ocean plastic pollution; after all, coastal states probably account for the vast quantities of ocean plastic pollution from the United States, compared to Nebraska, Colorado, and places like Wyoming. Still, everyone eats, and a dying habitat soon leaves many people hungry. Hungry people lead to political strife and then war. So, everyone's in on ocean plastic pollution, a-political or not.

The Deep Adaption Agenda

"The simple evidence of global ambient temperature rise is undisputable. Seventeen of the 18 warmest years in the 136-year record all have occurred since 2001, and global temperatures have increased by 0.9°C since 1880 (NASA/GISS, 2018). The most surprising warming is in the Arctic, where the 2016 land surface temperature was 2.0°C above the 1981-2010 average, breaking the previous records of 2007, 2011, and 2015 by 0.8°C, representing a 3.5°C increase since the record began in 1900 (AaronMorrison et al, 2017). April 23, 2019 Alaska has record heat in 2019 spring while CO2 reached 420 ppm. Is this a new high because it's nearly double pre-industrial levels. Now we need to watch nitrous oxide emissions as permafrost thaws at increasing rates.

April 26. Time for me and time for the 7th Generation runs short. The "optimists" continue, even today, to say, "We have time if we begin now." So from which fantasy ideologies does this optimism arise? In what magic box to they hide their theories and methods for returning Earth's ice maker back on to restore melting Arctic and Greenland ice? Today I spend a couple hours on the removal of Arctic ice because it between 10 to 100 times longer to restore Arctic, Greenland, and world-wide glacier ice than to melt it.

I return to Killer Oceans - Albedo as a subject and ice melt. Adding glossary because of albedo conscerns and explaing electromegnetic (solar) forcing. Major work ahead.

April 28, 2019 - Are we reaching a peak indifference to climate change? Meanwhile, Trump's climate monsters released another White House killer memo. This time it continues fossil fuel swamp enhancements to lobbyists and destroying science based environmental polies. The realm of magical thinkers grows. Killer Ocenas blog lives! And again I return to both the new glossary and Albedo, if only for an hour or so. If no other explanation will get through to the cement heads, than this is the one that will, if ever a fact-based reason can get throught to them: a heating Arctic Ocean means a warming Arctic Ocean means melting Arctic Ocean ice means more Arctic Ocean warming means more Arctic Ocean warming for far to long to the the 7th Generation. And methane?
